Spicy Ground Beef – Kheema masala - Dill se

Although this is traditionally made with ground beef, you could easily substitute the beef for ground chicken or turkey. Regular with a little bit of fat is recommended, but feel free to use lean. I love to make this when I’m in a rush as it takes very little time to prepare and the kids love it. For the first time I added some dill weed (sooi ki bhaji), you can omit it and add coriander instead.

2 pounds regular ground beef
1 red onion finely chopped
10 garlic pods finely minced
3 green chilllies finely chopped
2 tbsps cumin powder(jeera)
1 tbsp coriander powder(dhania)
1 tomato chopped
½ - full cup chopped dill (remove the thick stalks and add as much as you like)
1 potato cut in cubes
salt
1 tbsp fresh ground pepper

In a sauté pan, heat some oil and fry the potatoes, remove and keep aside. Add the onion, green chilies and minced garlic to the hot pan. Fry till golden brown and remove. Then add the washed and drained ground beef and sear for a few minutes. Add the cumin, coriander powder, salt and pepper. Cook for 5 mins till the meat has browned. Add the tomatoes, cover and cook. Frequently stir the ground beef and make sure there are no clumps. Add the fried onion, garlic and chillies and potatoes to the beef, followed by the dill. Taste for salt, cover and cook for another 5 – 10 mins. Add a little water if required. The ground beef should be nice and tender.
