Beef dry masala

My kids absolutely love red meat even though I know it's not really good for us, I like to indulge them once in a while. This is an easy recipe and is very versatile - you can add potatoes and other veggies to it if you like and tomatoes if you want it gravy based.

3 pounds thin beef steak cut in thin strips
1 large red onion sliced
2 cloves of garlic cut in strips
2 green chillies sliced
1 tbsp ginger paste
1 tbsp garlic paste
1/2 tsp red chilly powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
salt
freshly ground pepper
water

Fry the onion and chillies keep aside. Add the garlic to the hot oil and remove when brown. Add the beef strips and all the powdered spices. Let it sear on one side and then turn over the pieces.Add salt, pepper and the ginger and garlic paste. Cook for about an hour. Add a half cup of water to the pan cover and cook for about 20 mins, stirring at intervals to prevent burning. Add water as required.
